Keller knocks off Plano West, Indians return to state

Last May, Keller softball clinched its first state berth in over a decade.

The Indians went on to the win the state title. Now the 6A champs can rightfully defend their crown after clinching a trip to Austin for the second-straight year.

Keller (33-6-1) scored four times in the first inning, Kourtney Williams homered and Dylann Kaderka threw a three-hit shutout, and the Indians blanked Plano West 8-0 in Game 3 of the 6A Region I final on Saturday at Flower Mound.

The Indians will play Deer Park, 3 p.m. Friday in a 6A state semifinal game at McCombs Field on the campus of the University of Texas.

Amanda Desario led off the game with a double and scored on an RBI single from Caraline Woodall, and three batters later Brooke Davis made it 2-0 with a sac fly to left field.

Courtney Cagle hit a liner to shortstop and reached on an error, and two more runs crossed the plate for the Indians.

Williams doubled in a run in the third and Cagle’s sac fly put Keller ahead 6-0.

Camryn Woodall had an RBI single in the fourth and Williams had a no-doubter solo shot over the scoreboard in left field to start the seventh.

Kaderka struck out three batters, and finished Game 2 and 3 with one run and nine hits allowed, and struck out seven in 14 innings. Keller won Game 2, 8-1 on Friday. Plano West won Game 1, 4-3 on Thursday.
