Graduating senior Megan Piehler will deliver the commencement address at Midwestern State University’s graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. May 13 at Kay Yeager Coliseum. Plano native Piehler will deliver the commencement address to about 692 students who are candidates to earn their degrees this May.
Piehler will receive a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with a double minor in public relations and advertising, and Spanish.
In 2015, Piehler received the Clark Scholar award, and in 2016, she was named the Hardin Scholar – MSU’s two highest student awards. She was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott as the 2015-2016 student regent, the highest appointed position of a student at Texas public institutions of higher education. The student regent is a nonvoting member of the university’s governing board.
Piehler was a member of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Redwine Honors Society Committee. She served the SGA as senator for the American Advertising Federation at MSU. She was named Outstanding Freshman Woman in 2014.
She is a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and Gamma Phi Beta, where she was named Outstanding Scholar in 2014. She has presented at the National Model UN Conference in New York and the Great Plains Honors Conference in South Padre Island, Texas. She received a scholarship from the Advertising Education Foundation of Houston and American Advertising Federation-Houston.
Piehler, a 2013 homeschool graduate, is the daughter of Mindy and David Piehler of Plano.
